Summer Learning


This term, the children in year three will be learning about art in nature and asking the question 'Are all environments beautiful?'

During the term, the children will be exploring the work of famous artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe, Henri Rousseau and Qi Baishi. Using techniques, skills and influences used by these artists the children will create their own drawings, paintings and prints. 

In class, we will be reading some of these titles which are linked to our theme.



In music, the children will be learning about famous composers from around the world including Rimsky Korsakov, Benjamin Britten, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. The children will be learning to identify  musical instruments and how composers create mood.



In maths, the children will be learning about the following:

  • Tenths and tenths as decimals
  • Fractions on a number line
  • Finding a fraction of a set of objects
  • Equivalent fractions 
  • Comparing and ordering fractions
  • Add and subtract fractions with the same denominator 
  • Right angles
  • Horizontal and vertical lines
  • Parallel and perpendicular lines 
  • Name and describe 2D and 3D shapes
  • Measure and compare mass, capacity an d temperature 

Spring Learning 

This term year three will be learning about the ancient Egyptians and the Stone Age. The children will be investigating the achievements of these early civilizations focusing on religion, work, celebrations and  farming using a range of historical sources. 

The children will have the opportunity to plan and celebrate an ancient Egyptian festival, make Egyptian food, create a shaduf and design an ancient Egyptian temple.
