Gorseybrigg Primary School and Nursery

At Gorseybrigg Primary School we strive to cultivate a real sense of excitement and curiosity about science, and aim to deliver high quality science teaching, supporting and encouraging all children to achieve their full potential.

We are committed to the provision of an inclusive and rigorous science education for all children, which enables them to make sense of the world they live in.

Our Foundation Stage children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework which is statutory.

We ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. Teachers aim to give them the broad range of knowledge and skills to provide the right foundation for good future progress through the school and their future lives.

Key Stages

Our Key Stage 1 and 2 children follow the National Curriculum for England which is set out by the Department for Education.

Our teaching staff work hard to deliver learning experiences that are fun, exciting and enjoyable; promoting curiosity and the courage to succeed ensures that all pupils develop the enthusiasm and skills required to become lifelong learners.

Teachers aim to incorporate science into the school’s creative curriculum topics as well as teaching it discretely. When recording and presenting scientific data, links with maths are explicitly demonstrated to the children. Literacy skills including reading for a purpose, speaking and listening and writing are embedded into the science curriculum and taught at a level appropriate with the children’s age and attainment level.
